Snap-on Acquires Diesel Laptops for $100M: What It Means for Your Diagnostic Setup
June 2026 — Snap-on, the tool and equipment giant known for its franchise dealer model and premium price points, announced on June 9 that it has acquired Diesel Laptops LLC for approximately $100 million in cash. The deal closed June 8.
For Canadian fleets and technicians who rely on heavy-duty diagnostic tools, this is worth paying attention to.
What Happened
Diesel Laptops, based in Irmo, South Carolina, built its name as an independent provider of diagnostic hardware, repair software, training programs, and technical support for commercial trucks and off-highway equipment. The company served independent repair facilities, fleet maintenance operations, and equipment operators across sectors including construction, mining, and agriculture.
Under the deal, Diesel Laptops becomes part of Snap-on's Repair Systems & Information Group — the same division that houses Snap-on's proprietary diagnostic platforms and data libraries.
What We Know & What to Expect After the Diesel Laptops Acquisition
You may be wondering what typically happens after an acquisition like this. When a large corporate acquirer absorbs an independent diagnostics company, distribution channels get consolidated, product lines get rationalized, and pricing structures shift to reflect the new parent company's margins. Support and training, often the most valued part of an independent provider's offering, can get stretched thin or redirected through centralized call centers.
Snap-on hasn't announced what changes are coming to Diesel Laptops' product lineup or pricing, but that doesn’t eliminate the uncertainty. For technicians and fleet managers investing in their next diagnostic tool, that uncertainty matters.
What Stays the Same at WholeFleet
WholeFleet remains an independent, Canadian-based distributor of Jaltest diagnostic tools — one of the most capable multi-brand diagnostic platforms available for commercial vehicles, forklifts, and off-highway equipment. That hasn't changed.
Jaltest is built and maintained by Cojali, a dedicated diagnostics manufacturer with deep roots in the commercial vehicle space. WholeFleet's relationship with Cojali, and our ability to provide hands-on Canadian support, training, and onboarding, isn't tied to a corporate acquisition.
This matters because diagnostic tools are only as useful as the support behind them. If something breaks, if a software update causes a fault, if a technician needs guidance on a specific ECU or CANbus system — you need someone who knows the product and can respond quickly. That's what WholeFleet has always provided, and it's what we'll continue to provide.
